In the last 25 years Japanese women have held the record for the longest-living women in the world. Namely, the average life expectancy for these people is 84!
Despite living longer than any other female in the world, Japanese women seem to look the youngest and somehow in preventing the usual process of ageing.
In the Japanese writer Naomi Moriyama’s book “Japanese women don’t get old or fat” shares the secrets of Japanese food and solutions to stay young-looking and happy.
She says the traditional Japanese cuisine is using foods that avoid ageing, health issues and weight gain.
Foods, such as fruits, rice, fish, seaweed, beans, green tea, and soy, are eaten every day, contributing to weight control and prevention of ageing.
Japanese people often eat home-cooked meals, including soup, fruit, grilled fish, a rice bowl, fried vegetables, and green tea.
They really like fish, eat about 10% of all fish eaten around the world and account for just 2% of the world’s population.
Moriyama also says that since very young, Japanese children know the rules of a balanced diet, enjoy the food and eat slowly.
Every meal is always eaten individually, so people do not require to eat big portions or fill their bowls. This cuisine is fairly simple, and the food is slowly cooked, usually steamed or grilled.
All meals have rice as a side meal, as a bread replacement, and this is one of the major variations in their dietary patterns and food habits.
Japanese people accept that breakfast is an essential regular meal, including fish, omelette, soup, tofu, seaweed, steamed rice, youthful garlic and green tea.
We avoid sweets, only have a small portion if served. Women are mindful of the harmful effects on the overall health of consumption of sweet foods such as cookies, ice cream, and chocolate and they never eat it.
