Foods and Ways to Minimize High Blood Pressure.
The blood pressure is known as the strength of blood flowing from the heart to the arteries and normal reading of BP should be equal to or less than 120/80 mm Hg.
High BP, also known as hypertension, means that the blood flows more strongly through the arteries, which increases the pressure on them and causes damage to them in turn.
Lemons help to reduce the pressure on the blood vessels by keeping them moist. That, in effect, helps to lower the blood pressure. Thanks to their vitamin C content, lemons often help lower the risk of heart failure. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps to neutralize the effects of free radicals on the body.
Watermelon seeds contain a compound that helps to expand capillaries of the blood. This compound also helps improve the functioning of the kidneys, which in turn decreases BP rates and also significantly helps with arthritis.
BP lowering effects of garlic have been demonstrated in many studies. Garlic helps to regulate high blood pressure while lowering cholesterol.
Eating bananas means it can be managed reliably by people with high blood pressure. Bananas are a rich potassium source which reduces the effect of sodium. Start eating 1 or 2 bananas everyday. Dried apricots, raisins, currants, orange juice, spinach, zucchini, boiled sweet potatoes and winter squash can be tried with bananas.
The elevated phytochemical level found in celery significantly helps in regulating high blood pressure. Phthalides help relax the muscles in and around the walls of the arteries, thereby creating more space and allowing the blood to flow in without difficulty.
Drinking beet juice can lower blood pressure in the short and the long term.
Drinking red beet juice contributed to lower blood pressure in people with hypertension who drank about 1 cup of the juice for 4 weeks every day for 250 milliliters. Within 24 hours the researchers observed a few positive results.
Those who drink 1 cup of the beet juice daily had an average reduction in blood pressure of about 8/4 mm mercury. For many, the change has put their BP within the normal range. For average, one blood pressure drug lowers concentrations by 9/5 mm Hg.
This sweet treat is best for every BP patient. Cocoa-rich chocolate is reducing blood pressure in humans with hypertension or prehypertension.
Choose high-quality chocolate that contains at least 70% cocoa and eat one slice, or one piece weighing around 1 ounce a day.
Cinnamon can also help to reduce BP, in the short term at least.
An review of three studies found that cinnamon decreased systolic short-term BP by 5.39 mm Hg and diastolic BP by 2.6 mm Hg, respectively.
Add cinnamon to the diet as an alternative to sugar, by sprinkling it over oatmeal or freshly chopped fruit.
Stop smoking is good for you overall safety. Smoking causes your BP to rise rapidly but briefly, and your heart rate to increase.
In the long term, tobacco chemicals will increase your BP by destroying the walls of your blood vessels, causing inflammation and narrowing your arteries. Higher BP is caused by the hardened arteries.
Also if you are around second hand smoke, your blood vessels can be harmed by the cigarette chemicals. Kids with secondhand smoke in the house.
