Why is Winnie the Pooh Called a Pooh?
After the first official Winnie the Pooh tale was written in 1926 by A.A. Milne, the character has been cherished by children over several generations.
Yet Why does Winnie call him a Pooh rather than a Bear? Since most kids have a different understanding of what a Pooh is, how did the name stuck?
Back in the 1920s the solution lies.
In truth Winnie wasn’t even Winnie when it was first published by Milne.
Initially he went by Edward Bear’s name, before moving to Winnie in time for the aforementioned official debut in 1926. Part of the name “Winnie” came from a visit to the London Zoo, where Milne saw a black bear named after the city of Winnipeg, Canada.
The Pooh? Okay, Pooh was a swan, a totally different character at first.
Milne wrote a poem in The book When We Were Very Young, explaining how in the mornings Christopher Robin would feed the swan.
